Tips To Help You Reduce Chemotherapy Side Effects
If you are undergoing chemotherapy the chance to not suffer its side effects is
very minimal. Whether you are male or female, you have more chances to experience at least one of the adverse
effects of chemotherapy: skin disorders, nausea, stomach and Intestinal
(gastrointestinal) disorders , vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, temporary hair loss, etc. However, you
can take steps to eliminate or reduce these effects and improve the quality of your life. During and after (weeks
or even months) after chemotherapy, you can:
* avoid sun exposure; prolonged sun exposure can increase skin problems;
* consume a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables
* avoid alcohol consumption
* drink plenty of distilled water; this practice helps prevent dry mouth and
kidney problems
* Relax; if necessary, take a nap in the afternoon.
Regular afternoon
nap helps prevent fatigue, boosts the brain capacity and the immune system.
* chew sugar free chewing gun to keep your lips hydrated and your breath
fresh;
* take frequent small meals containing cruciferous
vegetables;
* if you have trouble, redness or swelling at the injection site, apply ice to
it, and notify your
doctor
* to reduce or prevent nausea and vomiting, drink iced tea or green tea to help
your stomach to restore. Talk to your doctor about anti-nausea medications if the problem
persists.
* eat plenty of fresh fruit especially strawberries, grapes, carrot, cantaloupe,
apple, and peach
* avoid fried and fatty foods or highly scented foods (see chemotherapy
diet);
* If you feel down, entertain yourself by watching a cartoon (Tom and jerry for
instance). In addition, you can have a conversation with someone that can make you laugh. You can also read psalms
and pray God.
